The Messenger
The moon was angry The broken tusk Of a black walrus Martyred in the cosmos All of the constellations Pointed arrows At the whizzing comet Rogue, fast as light Plumage white Nose against the dark Loneliness of space Snow-white blood Leaking into the galaxy The burden of speed No star could look away For disgust or envy The comet blew against The archer's bow The sharp horns of Taurus Bent like scimitars And Venus sat whimpering In some star-less corner Nursing her wounds And licking the dark © David Incoll 2001 |
